April 10,2003 - CONCORDE FLIGHTS WILL STOP ON NOVEMBER,1ST 2003

PARIS (AFP)

The airline companies Air France and British Airways

announced Thursday they stop the flights of supersonic

Franco-British Concorde as of November 1, 2003, after more than 27

years of exploitation.

Air France explained this decision in an official statement by "the

deterioration of the economic results of the transatlantic line

exploited in Concorde" during last months and in particular "since the

beginning of the year".

"It is with regret that Air France made the decision to stop the

exploitation of the Concored. But this choice was essential ", declared

Jean-Cyril Spinetta, chairman of Air France. "the degradation of the

economic situation throughout these last months resulted in a fall of

the traffic of businesses which particularly weighted on the results of

the Concored".

"The costs of maintenance having been increased since its handing-over on line, its exploitation became heavily and structurally overdrawn. Under these conditions, it became unreasonable to still continue it ", added Mr. Spinetta.

Like Air France, the company British Airways indicated that "this

decision was made for commercial reasons, the strongly moving back

number of passengers whereas the costs of maintenance increased".

"Concorde served us well and we are extremely proud to have made steal

this marvellous and single plane during these 27 last years",

commented on the general manager of British Airways, Rod Eddington.

"It is the one time fantastic end of world aeronautics but to put

Concorde at the retirement is a careful commercial decision at one

time when we must make difficult decisions in the whole of our

activities", it continued.

Of trade-union source of Air France, one had indicated this week that

the rate of filling of supersonic had fallen in the from 20% since the beginning from the war in Iraq, against 50% before.

The Concorde never really recovered from the catastrophe of Gonesse

(Valley-in Oise) on July 25, 2000, when a plane of Air France had

been crushed little after the takeoff of the Parisian airport of

Roissy Charles of Gaulle, making 113 dead.

At the beginning of April, the Minister for Transport Gilles de Robien

had expressed his interest for the development "of a detailed report"

on the various incidents to the Harmony since November 7, 2001, date

of the resumption of the flights after the catastrophe of Gonesse.

The exploitation of the Continue was initially to continue for Air

France until 2007-2008, limiting date beyond which an integral

revision of the apparatuses was to be undertaken.

"Any decision which Air France will make will be accepted by the

current principal shareholder" (the State, note), had declared

Tuesday the Secretary of State to Transport Domenica Bussereau. "If it

were a decision of stop of exploitation, the government, like all the

French, would pour a tear which would not be a crocodile tear", it had

added, estimating that "is with the company to appreciate the

technical difficulties which currently arise, the problems of

filling".

At the end of February, British Airways had informed that it

considered a stop of the supersonic one. "Considering the current

commercial environment, whereas the products the top-of-the-range one

are more and more under pressure, it is only prudence of our share

which to think carefully of a possible date of withdrawal of the

Harmony", a spokesman had indicated.

April 09,2003 - DISCREET COMBUSTION 2.1.1 UPDATE AVAILABLE

Issues Addressed

The following describes the issues addressed by this Updater.

Particle Display/Rendering

The following issues pertaining to particle display/rendering have been resolved:

· When you create a particle emitter in a Particle branch with a transparent background, the particle emitter now displays properly in the active viewport.

· When you create a particle emitter in a Particle branch with a transparent background, or when you create a Solid layer with its opacity set to 0% and add a particle emitter to this layer, the fine detail around the edges of the particle emitter is no longer lost.

Note: When you create a particle emitter over a light background, if the particle emitter type is intense, the particle emitter is very bright. This is normal behavior. The Intense option is used to make a particle emitter bright by using the Additive transfer mode. Since intense particle emitters are additive, they tend to wash out on lighter backgrounds. In fact, an intense particle emitter over a white background is completely invisible. Therefore, to preserve its color, in the Workspace panel, click the particle emitter type, in the Particle Controls panel, click Particles and enable Preserve Color. To change the visibility of a particle emitter over time, in the Workspace panel, click the particle emitter type, in the Particle Controls panel, click Behavior and change the visibility percentage.

There is a difference when you create a particle emitter over a transparent background and then composite the particle emitter with footage. When you add a particle emitter to a single transparent layer, it is first created over a transparent background and then it is composited to the footage. When you add a particle emitter to a footage operator, if the particle emitter created is intense, the color of the particle emitter is added to the background. To make the particle emitter work as if it were created over a transparent background, in the Workspace panel, click the particle emitter type, in the Particle Controls panel, click Particles and enable Preserve Color.

Particle Preview

The option to have a floating Particles Preview panel has been added. The Particles Preview panel preferences can be accessed via the combustion Preferences dialog. To use a floating Particles Preview panel, in the Preferences dialog, under Particles, click the General category. Click On next to Preview Palette Floating. A dialog appears stating “Changes will take effect the next time combustion is launched.” Click OK, exit combustion, and then launch combustion. The Particles Preview panel is now a floating, resizable panel.

Exporting GMask Setup to IFFF

Exporting GMask tangent animations into flame® now works properly. As a result, the option of enabling Tangents Animation Compatible with IFFF in the combustion Preferences dialog, in the Paint General category, is no longer required and has therefore been removed.

Bezier and Cubic Interpolations in GMasks

Bezier and Cubic interpolations are not supported by flame. A warning message has been added to this effect. When the user chooses to export Bezier/Cubic interpolations into flame (via the Mask Controls panel by choosing Settings | Export), a warning message is displayed.

combustion and edit Integration

Rendering combustion Template Projects in edit 6.0 and edit 6.5 now works properly.

combustion and 3ds max Integration

Using combustion tools in 3ds max™ 5 no longer cause 3ds max 5 to crash upon exiting.

Working with combustion on Macintosh

You can now enter Japanese characters on OS X v10.1 and v10.2.

Licensing Manager for Education Clients

The licensing manager for education clients now accommodates the use of one serial number for 25 dongles. Previously, Educational licenses would not allow users to run combustion on multiple machines using the same serial number with different dongle numbers without any license violations.

April 08,2003 - SIM CITY 4 - NEW UPDATE AVAILABLE

Click here to choose your country and update your simcity4

Performance improvements:

Zoom and rotation switching is faster in all cases, due to changes that made building graphics loading more conservative.

AutoZoomChange:off

Simulation and Frame rates in general are faster for many cities, due to bug fixes and performance improvements related to the traffic simulation and neighbor deals.

The application's memory cache is more aggressively reduced at runtime, so that memory will be freed for other uses, resulting in less paging on systems with less memory.

Control-Shift-Alt-S (or holding down Alt while clicking on the city save button) saves the city without updating the region thumbnail and should significantly improve the game save time, especially on memory-strapped systems.

Game default detail options have been made more conservative with respect to memory and processor speed. Because of the additions to the graphics options, your previous settings will be lost and reset with new default settings.

The game no longer forces itself into the underground view unless you have explicitly picked an underground tool.

Three new graphics options have been added under in-game graphics settings. They are: building detail, texture quality and building load speed. These options are initially set at conservative defaults and can be altered for your specific machine needs. Building detail will enable you to load one building style set per rank. (1 set=low, 2 sets=medium, all 3 sets=high). Texture quality will alter the textures based on the zoom level. Building load speed will enable tuning options for the rate at which buildings are loaded in memory. For example, at the low setting buildings will appear at a slower rate but there will be greater responsiveness to the mouse and scroll movements.
